Riyadh Launches Six Community Sports Tournaments
Riyadh Region Municipality has launched six community sports tournaments for residents, held across 11 locations within the central sector of Riyadh during September 2026. The initiative aims to promote physical activity, encourage neighborhood participation, and strengthen community interaction.
The tournaments cover a mix of team sports and popular social games. They include a neighborhood football league for district teams, a separate football league for volunteer teams, along with basketball and volleyball tournaments. Two traditional card and board games are also featured: a Baloot tournament and a dominoes tournament.
The events target residents of different age groups, making them accessible to a wide range of participants across the central sector. Alongside the competitions, the municipality is running more than 15 recreational, educational, and health-awareness activities to enrich the resident experience and broaden community involvement.
Wide community participation
Around 40 participating entities from the government, private, and non-profit sectors, as well as volunteer teams, are involved in organizing and supporting the tournaments and their accompanying activities. This collaborative approach reflects the goal of bringing neighborhoods together through shared sporting and social events.
The tournaments run only during the month of September 2026, with competitions scheduled across the 11 sites in the central sector. Publicly available notices present the events as community activities for residents and do not state any participation fees. Registration and coordination are handled directly through the municipality's own channels.
