The Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) has signed an agreement valued at SAR 1.6 billion to develop and operate a fourth container terminal, Terminal 4, at Jeddah Islamic Port, one of the Kingdom's main gateways on the Red Sea. The project will be delivered under the existing concession of Red Sea Gateway Terminal (RSGT), in a joint venture with international shipping and logistics group CMA CGM.
Terminal 4 is planned with an annual handling capacity of around 2.6 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units). It will be built adjacent to RSGT's existing terminal complex and will operate as a specialized, dedicated container-handling facility within that complex.
The development includes new deep-water berths capable of receiving ultra-large container vessels, supported by advanced terminal operating technologies and 10 new ship-to-shore cranes. The aim is to raise the port's overall capacity while improving handling efficiency, productivity, and service reliability.
Why it matters
Jeddah Islamic Port is a key node linking global trade routes through the Red Sea, and added capacity supports faster, more reliable movement of goods that many businesses and households across Jeddah and the wider Kingdom depend on. The SAR 1.6 billion earmarked for Terminal 4 is part of a broader container expansion at the port, alongside a separate SAR 3 billion investment in the Southern Container Terminal, together lifting total container capacity.
No per-container handling fees, tariff schedules, or specific pricing for using Terminal 4 have been made public. Operational and concession details are managed directly between Mawani and the concessionaire, and no timelines for private users or shipping lines beyond the investment framework have been announced.
