A major healthcare project is heading to the Eastern Province, after a construction contract valued at about SAR 994 million (roughly US$265 million) was reported for the Prince Mohammed Bin Fahd University Speciality Hospital in Al-Khobar. The work has been awarded to Zhejiang Construction International, the Saudi subsidiary of Zhejiang Construction Investment Group.
the development includes a 10-storey main hospital building alongside two five-storey auxiliary buildings, all connected by corridors, plus a basement level. This layout points to a large, integrated facility designed to serve a growing patient base in Al-Khobar and the surrounding cities.
Separate details indicate the bid was placed at around 1.8 billion yuan, with an expected construction period of 1,095 calendar days — about three years. At the announcement stage, a formal contract had not yet been signed, meaning timelines could still shift as the project moves forward.
Why it matters
For residents and expats across the Eastern Province, a new speciality hospital of this scale signals expanded access to healthcare services and, once operational, potential job opportunities in medical and support roles. Large construction projects of this size also tend to create demand for suppliers, contractors, and local services during the build phase.
The contract reflects continued international interest in Saudi Arabia's construction and healthcare sectors. As the country advances its long-term development goals, projects like this add to the pipeline of specialised facilities being planned across the Kingdom's major regions.
