School Health Program Expands Fitness, Sleep Focus

A school-based health awareness program run jointly by the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education is expanding its activities across schools in the Kingdom, focusing on physical activity, obesity control, and healthy sleep. The program, which is free of charge, was first launched on 21 August 2023 as part of a wider school health initiative and targets the entire school community.

Under the program, awareness visits cover physical activity and obesity control, while dedicated awareness sessions address the importance of healthy sleep for students. The initiative aims to build healthier daily habits among pupils and the wider school community rather than provide a paid clinical service.

Alongside the awareness activities, families can access the first-grade fitness screening, booked through the Sehhaty app. The screening includes body mass index (BMI), vision, speech, hearing, and dental and oral checks, along with an immunization review and a general clinical exam.

Recent school-health activity has continued into 2026, including the Ministry of Education's "An Hour for Your Health 2026" event in Riyadh. That event offered blood pressure and blood sugar checks, fitness assessments, obesity-reduction consultations, and awareness of healthy habits.

For residents and expat families in Riyadh, Jeddah, and beyond, the expanded program is a practical reminder to keep children active, manage weight, and prioritize good sleep. Parents of first-grade students can complete the fitness screening through Sehhaty as part of ongoing school health care.
