A new agreement worth SAR 1.6 billion (about USD 434 million) has been signed to develop and jointly operate the fourth container terminal at Jeddah Islamic Port, in one of the largest foreign direct investments in Saudi Arabia's maritime sector.
The deal brings together Red Sea Gateway Terminal (RSGT), the concession holder at the port, and global shipping group CMA CGM through its terminal arm. RSGT will grant a sub-concession for Terminal 4 within its existing long-term concession framework with the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani), while the two partners form a joint venture to run the facility as a dedicated container terminal. The finalized figure replaces an earlier planned investment of around SAR 1.7 billion referenced in 2025.
What the project will deliver
Terminal 4 will be a new, state-of-the-art facility built next to the existing RSGT complex. It is set to add up to 2.6 million TEUs of annual handling capacity, supported by new deep-water berths able to receive the world's largest container vessels, plus 10 new ship-to-shore cranes and advanced terminal technologies.
Once fully implemented, the project is planned to raise RSGT's total handling capacity at Jeddah Islamic Port to around 8.8 million TEUs
For residents and businesses, the expansion signals faster, higher-capacity trade flows through the Red Sea and stronger port infrastructure. It also reinforces the Kingdom's ambition to serve as a leading regional logistics and trade hub, with a focus on modernizing digital and sustainability capabilities across its maritime gateways.
