Saudi Arabia has been formally confirmed as the host nation of the 2034 FIFA World Cup, with the announcement made on 11 December 2024 following an uncontested bidding process. The tournament will bring the world's biggest football event to the Kingdom for the first time.
The World Cup is planned across five Saudi cities — Riyadh, Jeddah, Al Khobar, Abha, and NEOM — using a total of 15 stadiums that combine renovated existing venues, sites under construction, and new builds. As of 2026, the planned distribution includes eight stadiums in Riyadh, four in Jeddah, and one each in Al Khobar, Abha, and NEOM.
The centrepiece venue
King Salman International Stadium, located north of Riyadh adjacent to King Abdulaziz Park, is designated as the tournament's flagship venue. With an expected capacity of around 92,000 seats and completion scheduled for about 2029, it is planned to host both the opening match and the final.
Several major new stadia are moving through construction. Aramco Stadium in Al Khobar, with a capacity of roughly 45,000–47,000, is under construction and scheduled for completion in 2026, making it expected to be the first World Cup venue ready. In Riyadh, renovation and expansion of Prince Faisal bin Fahd Sports City Stadium targets 2027, while the new Jeddah Central Development Stadium is also aiming for 2027.
Under the bid plan, all new Saudi World Cup stadia are scheduled for completion between 2026 and 2032, with projects led by the Ministry of Sport and related state entities. Existing venues earmarked for use include King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh, which remains operational and is set for renovation ahead of 2034.
For residents and visitors, the tournament signals years of major development in stadiums, transport, and hospitality across the Kingdom. Official tournament and hosting information is available through the Saudi World Cup 2034 portal, the primary Saudi-facing channel for World Cup updates.
