Saudi Autumn Starts Sept 1 with Milder Temperatures

Saudi Arabia officially entered its meteorological autumn on 1 September 2026, marking the end of the peak summer months and the start of a gradual shift toward milder weather across the Kingdom. The National Center for Meteorology confirmed the seasonal transition, describing September as a period of fluctuating weather elements before autumn settles in.

average temperatures across the Kingdom are expected to remain above normal, with anomalies reaching around +2.5°C above long-term averages in parts of the Northern Borders, Qassim, Hail, and Riyadh. Despite the seasonal cooling narrative, most regions are set to stay warmer than usual through the autumn months.

In early fall, daytime temperatures will often remain in the 30s Celsius, while evenings turn noticeably milder — particularly in northern regions and the southwestern highlands. Northern areas including the Northern Borders, Al-Jouf, Tabuk, and Hail have already recorded sharp drops during early-season cold spells, with minimums of about 8–12°C, signalling the potential for significantly cooler nights as the season advances.

Forecasters also expect autumn 2026 to be exceptionally rainy, with October identified as the peak for heavy to very heavy rainfall across most regions. Above-average rainfall probabilities are expected to continue into November, alongside temperatures that remain higher than seasonal norms.

Why it matters

For residents in Riyadh, Jeddah, and beyond, the change means gradually more comfortable evenings after months of intense summer heat, but also a need to prepare for potential heavy rain during October. The National Center for Meteorology operates the national early-warning system and publishes seasonal forecasts and weather alerts through its official platforms as free public information — no fees or app-based payments are required to access this data.
