Revised residential tariffs for electricity and water in Saudi Arabia are scheduled to take effect on 1 January 2027. Contrary to some reports, no tariff increase is set for January 2026 in the available official information; the changes apply from the start of 2027.
For electricity, residential consumption up to 6,000 kWh up from the current 18 halalas. Consumption above 6,000 kWh will be billed at 33 halalas compared with 30 halalas today.
A new fixed monthly electricity charge, based on the capacity of the meter's circuit breaker, will replace the existing separate charge for meter reading, maintenance, and billing. For homes, this fixed amount will range from SAR70 to SAR100 before value-added tax.
New water rates
Residential water will be priced at SAR1 with higher consumption tiers charged at SAR2, SAR4, and SAR6 Wastewater will be billed at 50 percent of the applicable water rate.
The adjustments give households more than a year to plan ahead. Reviewing monthly consumption and the circuit-breaker capacity of home meters now can help residents understand how the fixed charge and the new tiers may affect future bills from 2027 onward.
