Riyadh Inspectors to Use Body Cameras on Field Visits

Riyadh Municipality is expanding the use of body-worn cameras by its field inspectors during establishment inspections across the capital, a move aimed at strengthening transparency and documentation of on-site visits.

The cameras capture inspection visits in both audio and video, producing a clear record that can later be used to review inspection procedures, observations raised by inspectors, and any objections from establishments.

a three-week proof-of-concept trial preceded the expansion and documented more than 600 inspection visits. The results supported wider adoption of the system as part of efforts to improve compliance and oversight.

Why it matters

The initiative is designed to protect multiple parties at once: inspectors carrying out their duties, the establishments being visited, workers on site, and consumers who rely on municipal standards. By creating a verifiable record, the municipality aims to raise accountability and reduce disputes over how inspections are conducted.

For business owners and residents, the shift means field visits are now documented more consistently, giving both inspectors and establishments a shared reference if questions arise about a visit.

So far, no fee, application procedure, validity period, or dedicated public service channel has been announced for establishments or consumers. It has also not been specified whether recordings can be requested directly through official municipality platforms or another route. Saudi Living will share further details if additional information is made available.
