Saudi Retail Trade Revenue Index Up 3.2% in Q2 2026

Saudi Arabia's operating revenue index for wholesale and retail trade rose 3.2% in the second quarter of 2026 compared with the same period a year earlier, The reading reflects steady momentum in one of the Kingdom's largest and most visible economic sectors.

The gains were driven mainly by retail trade, where operating revenues climbed 5.2% year-on-year. Motor vehicle sales and repair activities increased 2.7%, while wholesale trade excluding motor vehicles and motorcycles edged up 0.8% over the same period.

On a quarterly basis, however, the general index slipped 0.6% in Q2 2026 compared with the first quarter of the year — a modest dip that points to normal seasonal variation rather than a downturn in the broader annual trend.

Part of a broader indicator

The figures form part of the wider Operating Revenues Index, a short-term measure of business turnover published monthly and quarterly. It covers wholesale and retail trade alongside manufacturing, mining and quarrying, construction, financial and insurance activities, information and communication, and other sectors.

Recent months have shown consistent activity: the overall index rose 2.9% month-on-month in May 2026 and increased 6.1% year-on-year in June 2026, supported in part by growth in wholesale, retail and vehicle-related activities. In March 2026, the index had jumped 8.1% month-on-month.

For residents and business owners across Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam, the numbers offer a useful read on consumer spending and commercial demand. The index is a statistical measure of turnover — not a fee schedule or price control — and there are no special charges attached to it. Detailed data and methodology are available through official Saudi statistical portals and downloadable bulletins, with no app registration required to view them.
