Saudi Arabia is bringing electronic gaming into its national education system. In February 2026, the Ministry of Education signed three memoranda of understanding with Savvy Games Group to integrate game development and esports across general, university, technical, and vocational education.
Under the agreements, the Ministry will work with the National Center for Curriculum to insert games directly into curricula. The plan also covers training national talent, upskilling teachers, delivering accredited training courses, and organizing national competitions built around game development and esports.
A separate track of cooperation involves Tatweer Educational Services, focused on interactive educational content, gaming and simulation-based digital solutions, digital laboratories, and school esports programs and activities.
Why it matters
The move marks a shift from general support for the gaming sector to formal integration inside the education system through these signed agreements. For students and families across the Kingdom, it signals a growing pathway that connects a popular hobby with structured learning, accredited courses, and future career skills in a fast-growing industry.
The initiative also aligns with wider national goals to develop local talent and diversify skills. As programs roll out, schools and vocational institutions are expected to introduce educational games, digital labs, and organized esports activities. Specific timelines, participation details, and any implementation steps have not been announced, and no fees, permits, or transaction channels have been tied to this initiative at this stage. Saudi Living will share further details as they become available.
