Saudi Space Agency Issues Free Astronomy Guide

The Saudi Space Agency has issued a national astronomy guide that maps out the major celestial events visible over Saudi Arabia between 2026 and 2030. The publication is aimed at students, researchers, and the general public, and is available free of charge through the agency's official website (ssa.gov.sa).

The guide lists a total of 62 astronomical events across the five-year period — 9 in 2026, 12 in 2027, 14 in 2028, 15 in 2029, and 12 in 2030. These include solar and lunar eclipses, meteor showers, planetary conjunctions and oppositions, equinoxes, and solstices.

Each event is accompanied by simplified scientific definitions, timings, and details of its nature, along with basic observation guidance. Particular attention is given to safe viewing practices for solar eclipses, helping readers enjoy the events without risk.

Why it matters

The guide forms part of the agency's wider educational resources, which include the Knowledge Space Portal and the Space Encyclopedia. All of these materials are offered online at no stated cost and are designed to raise public awareness of space and astronomical sciences.

Access to the guide is not linked to Absher, Muqeem, Qiwa, Najiz, Nafath, or Tawakkalna, and no paid subscription or registration is required. It is provided directly through the agency's digital channels as a reference publication that remains valid through the end of 2030, with no renewal or expiry procedures. As of early September 2026, there are no announced plans to introduce user fees or mandatory registration for the guide.
