Saudi Arabia's sports economy is emerging as one of the fastest-growing pillars of the non-oil economy, with the market valued at roughly USD 8–8.4 billion in 2024 and targeted to reach around USD 22.4–22.7 billion by 2030, contributing close to 3% of non-oil GDP.
The sector is currently expanding at an estimated 8–9% annually through 2026. The sector's contribution to GDP rose from about USD 2.4 billion in 2016 to USD 6.9 billion in 2019, and growth has continued alongside a broader plan to invest around USD 1 trillion in tourism over the coming decade. The government has identified about 20 high-priority sports investment opportunities with a combined potential value of up to USD 20 billion, covering clubs, academies, facilities, and equipment.
Tourism tied to sports and entertainment is a major driver. Nonresident travel spending in the Kingdom quadrupled between 2022 and 2023, shifting the travel account from a USD 3 billion deficit in 2018 to a USD 13 billion surplus in 2023. The wider sports and entertainment events market is estimated at about USD 12.96 billion in 2025, rising to USD 14.61 billion in 2026 and projected to reach USD 34.24 billion by 2035, at roughly 12.8% annual growth.
Where the growth is concentrated
Riyadh holds around 42% of the events market share in 2025, while the Western Region around Jeddah is expected to grow by about 14.6% between 2026 and 2035. Stadiums and arenas are forecast to record the highest growth, at around 15.2% annually between 2026 and 2035, thanks to heavy investment in world-class venues.
For residents and visitors, this means more world-class events and easier access. Typical public ticket prices for major sports-linked concerts range between SAR 450 and SAR 1,200, supported by government subsidies to keep prices competitive. Premium seating and hospitality suites cost about SAR 5,000–45,000 while corporate packages for a Saudi Pro League season are priced at around SAR 380,000.
