Saudi Team Wins First Platinum at Standards Olympiad

The Saudi Standards Team has won the Kingdom's first-ever platinum award — the top and only platinum prize — at the 21st International Standards Olympiad, held in Korea from 12 to 14 August 2026, with 105 students from 11 countries taking part.

This marks the first time Saudi Arabia has claimed the Olympiad's highest honor since the Kingdom began competing. Alongside the platinum, the Saudi team also secured one silver award and one bronze award in the same edition.

The International Standards Olympiad is a global competition for middle- and high-school students that challenges participants to solve real-world problems using technical standards, creativity, and STEM skills. The Saudi delegation is made up of middle and high school students selected nationally and grouped into teams representing several regions of the Kingdom.

A rising track record

The platinum win caps a steady climb. In 2024, the Saudi standards team earned a bronze medal and special recognition in South Korea. In 2025, the national team won one gold and two silver medals at the 20th edition in Siheung, South Korea, among 40 teams worldwide.

Saudi participation is organized through a national qualifying program run by the national talent and standards bodies. The Qualifying Program for the International Standards Olympiad includes online registration, workshops, e-tests, and training phases before students head to the international stage.

Registration is completed through an online participation form on the official program portal, and projects not registered via this form are not accepted. There are no fees for taking part in either the qualifying program or the international participation for Saudi students — making the pathway open to talented students across the country.
