SR6,000 Fine Set for Unauthorized Car Races in KSA

Saudi traffic authorities have set a fine of up to SR6,000 for organizing or taking part in unauthorized car races or convoys on public roads, as part of continued efforts to improve road safety across the Kingdom.

Under the updated traffic-violation schedule in force in 2026, this category of offense carries a minimum fine of SR3,000 and a maximum of SR6,000. A recent public statement reaffirmed the SR6,000 penalty for holding races or driving in convoys on public roads without an official permit, signaling the current level of enforcement.

Organizing or joining races or convoys without a permit is classified as a serious traffic violation. Authorities say field campaigns and monitoring are being used to detect these activities, with the stated aim of protecting lives and deterring reckless driving on public roads.

Why it matters

For residents and drivers in Riyadh, Jeddah and other cities, the message is clear: unsanctioned street racing and convoy stunts on public roads can now result in significant financial penalties. Drivers are reminded that any racing activity requires an official permit.

Traffic fines in Saudi Arabia are typically viewable and payable through national e-services such as أبشر and through bank channels, in line with standard practice for Traffic Department violations.

It is worth noting that stricter, separate penalties apply to reckless car stunts or drifting that endanger others, where fines can climb much higher and may include vehicle impoundment and imprisonment. These are distinct from the SR3,000–SR6,000 unauthorized race fine.
