Summer Reading Challenge 2026 Opens for Kids Aged 6-14

The Libraries Commission has launched its 2026 Summer Reading Challenge across Saudi Arabia, inviting children and adolescents aged 6 to 14 to build daily reading habits over the summer break. The initiative runs until 30 August 2026 and offers a prize pool worth up to SAR 100,000.

Participants join online through the Commission's reading platform, where each age group is assigned age-appropriate books to read throughout the challenge period. Registration is free, and the activity is designed as a summer reading programme rather than a paid service.

Prizes and how it works

The challenge rewards top readers with cash prizes. Reported amounts include SAR 15,000 for first place, SAR 12,000 for second, SAR 10,000 for third, SAR 8,000 for fourth, and SAR 5,000 for fifth. The goal is to encourage young readers to keep turning pages consistently over the summer.

For families in Riyadh, Jeddah and beyond, the programme offers a structured, screen-free activity that can keep children engaged during the long summer days. Parents looking to sign up can register their children on the Commission's reading platform and select the reading track matching their child's age group.

The 2026 edition is notable for confirming its age range, prize pool and end date for this year, giving families clear details to plan around. With participation open to all eligible children nationwide, the challenge aims to make reading a rewarding daily routine for the next generation.
