Thunderstorms, Hail Forecast for Western Saudi Arabia

Weather forecasts point to unstable conditions across western Saudi Arabia, with thunderstorms, hail, gusty winds and dust-stirring winds expected over several regions. The most affected areas include Jazan, Asir, Al-Baha, Najran and Makkah.

Reduced visibility is a key concern for drivers. Near-zero horizontal visibility is expected along the coastal road leading to Jazan and across the eastern parts of Najran Region, so motorists in these areas are advised to take extra care.

Temperatures remain high in several cities. Makkah and Dammam are forecast to reach 45°C, while Riyadh is expected to hit 43°C alongside active winds. Abha stands out as the coolest major city on the list at 29°C, with thunderstorms and active winds forecast there as well.

Sea conditions

Over the Red Sea, winds are forecast at 12–35 km/h in the north and central parts and 15–50 km/h in the south, with waves ranging from 0.5 m to more than 2 m. Over the Arabian Gulf, winds are expected at 15–35 km/h in the north and 10–25 km/h in the central and southern parts, with waves between 0.5 m and 1.5 m.

The mix of rain, hail and poor visibility can affect road travel and outdoor plans, particularly in the southwestern regions. Residents and visitors are encouraged to stay updated on local conditions and plan journeys with the changing weather in mind.
