Saudi Arabia is combining artificial intelligence with culture to strengthen its creative economy, offering non-repayable grants of up to SR500,000 The program backs up to 20 cultural projects and targets micro, small, and medium-sized cultural enterprises, with applications open until the end of September.
Delivered through the Cultural Development Fund's AI Incentives for Cultural Projects, the initiative covers a wide range of uses: creativity and production, heritage preservation, content and knowledge enrichment, cultural experiences, project management and operations, and governance and intellectual property. Projects at the concept, prototype, or operating-venture stage are all eligible.
To qualify, projects must comply with Saudi regulations and AI ethics principles, including fairness, integrity, reliability, safety, transparency, explainability, accountability, privacy, and security.
Part of a wider national push
The grants form part of a broader effort after the Council of Ministers approved designating 2026 as the Year of Artificial Intelligence on 10 March 2026. The Ministry of Culture, the Cultural Development Fund, and SDAIA signed a memorandum to launch AI-powered programs for the cultural sector, creators, and cultural enterprises, including competitions and hackathons across the Kingdom's 16 recognized cultural sectors — from heritage, museums, libraries, literature, publishing, and translation to music, theater, film, architecture, fashion, and culinary arts.
Saudi Arabia also hosted the 4th UNESCO Global Forum on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence in Riyadh, with SDAIA and UNESCO cooperating on ethics and governance. National initiatives already underway include smart museums and AI-driven projects in AlUla, along with the Dive into Heritage initiative that uses digital technology to safeguard and promote World Heritage. For creators and cultural entrepreneurs across the community, the grants offer fresh funding to bring AI-powered cultural ideas to life.
