Saudi Arabia Reconstitutes Regional Councils for 8th Term

Saudi Arabia has reconstituted its Regional Councils for an eighth term beginning on 4 August 2026, with a mandate of four years covering all 13 regions of the Kingdom.

The new composition comprises 215 members in total, including 42 women. Membership stands at 20 members each in Riyadh, Makkah, and Madinah, while each of the remaining 10 regions has 15 members.

The councils operate under the Minister of Interior, with the regional governors and emirs overseeing coordination within their respective regions. Under the standard legal framework, membership runs for a term of four years and is renewable.

Why it matters for residents

Regional Councils play a role in local development and coordination across the Kingdom's regions, helping align services and projects with community needs. Their reconstitution marks the start of a new working cycle for planning and oversight at the regional level.

The inclusion of 42 women in the eighth-term composition reflects continued participation across the councils. For residents and expats alike, these bodies form part of the framework that supports development priorities in each region during the four-year term ahead.
