The All India Steering Committee in Riyadh, which operates under the Embassy of India, has appointed its first two women members in a milestone for the Indian community in the capital.
The committee named Chetana Jagadeshgari and Furqana Fatima to its ranks, marking the first time women have joined the body since it was formed.
The appointments broaden the representation of the committee, which works to support and coordinate services for Indian expatriates living in Riyadh and across the Kingdom.
The Indian community is one of the largest expatriate groups in Saudi Arabia, with a strong presence in Riyadh, Jeddah and the Eastern Province. Community committees play a central role in organizing cultural, social and welfare activities and in serving as a point of contact between residents and official channels.
Bringing women into the committee's leadership is seen as a step toward wider and more inclusive representation of the diverse community it serves.
