Riyadh is set to host two separate Thuluth calligraphy training courses in August 2026, giving residents and art enthusiasts fresh opportunities to learn one of the most refined Arabic scripts as the city continues to expand its cultural and arts education offerings.
The first is a specialized workshop titled “Arabic calligraphy from reed to canvas,” scheduled for 3–5 August 2026 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at MAB – Art Space in Riyadh. Over three days, participants learn how to prepare traditional tools such as reed pens, inks and treated paper, before moving on to the fundamentals of Thuluth script and the design and execution of a complete calligraphic artwork. Fees are set at 1,450 SAR for the full workshop, and enrolment is limited to a small group to ensure individual follow-up and detailed feedback.
The second is a five-day Thuluth calligraphy course running from 23 to 27 August 2026, organized by Culture House in Riyadh in cooperation with the Prince Mohammed bin Salman Global Center for Arabic Calligraphy (Dar Alqalam). The program covers the history and development of Arabic calligraphy and the characteristics of Thuluth script, an introduction to tools, inkwell preparation and letter-proportion rules, along with practical training in writing letters, constructing words and developing calligraphic compositions.
How to register
Registration for the MAB – Art Space workshop (3–5 August 2026) is handled online through a dedicated event link on the calligraphy training platform, where login and payment are completed directly — not through government service portals. For the Culture House / Dar Alqalam course (23–27 August 2026), the available information confirms only that it is organized by Culture House and Dar Alqalam, with no registration portal or exact fees published so far.
The two courses reflect the growing appetite in Riyadh for hands-on arts training, offering both a short, intensive introduction and a more comprehensive study of Thuluth, one of the classical pillars of Arabic calligraphy.
