AI Robots Boost Religious Guidance at Two Holy Mosques

Modern technology is taking a growing role in community religious education across Saudi Arabia, with AI-powered guidance robots now deployed at Masjid al-Haram in Makkah and Al-Masjid an-Nabawi in Madinah to serve pilgrims and visitors.

The robots offer multilingual religious guidance, instant fatwa responses drawn from a vetted database, and video-call connections to scholars for more complex questions. Through touch-screen interfaces placed in public areas of the Two Holy Mosques, they deliver awareness messages, explanations of rituals, location guidance for lessons, and translation services, operating daily throughout peak seasons such as Ramadan and Hajj.

The Presidency for Religious Affairs at the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque runs an integrated smart digital system that combines interactive screens, smart electronic libraries, QR codes, and multilingual guidance content to provide continuous education around the clock. Under the Religious Experience Enrichment Program at the Prophet's Mosque, an AI-powered "Smart Enrichment Assistant" application provides real-time information on prayer schedules, imams and muezzins, and the locations and timings of religious lessons.

Wider digital reach

The 2025–2026 operational plans for the Two Holy Mosques include AI-supported information systems and smart tracks that organize awareness content, expand the reach of educational messages, and support translation and digital broadcasting of sermons and lessons.

During the 2025 Hajj season, awareness efforts scaled up sharply, with tens of millions of multilingual text messages sent to pilgrims, hundreds of thousands of calls handled by an Islamic awareness hotline, and thousands of digital screen displays of video messages in mosques and hotel prayer areas — all focused on the correct performance of rituals. These tools help residents and visitors access reliable religious information in their own languages, wherever they are.
