Smart Robots Clean Prophet's Mosque Around the Clock

Smart robots powered by artificial intelligence, alongside electric equipment and automated machines, now support round-the-clock cleaning and sterilization at the Prophet's Mosque in Madinah. The program covers the mosque, its courtyards, roof, and facilities as part of an ongoing operational arrangement reported in September 2026.

The AI-operated robots handle a range of tasks, including washing and mopping courtyard floors, sterilization, detecting routes, avoiding obstacles, and autonomously returning to their starting point once a job is complete. Each automated washing and cleaning assignment typically lasts between two and four hours.

Human teams remain central to the effort. During one reported operational plan, around 1,490 workers supported cleaning and sterilization across the site, which spans more than 1.3 million square meters. The program relies on environmentally friendly cleaning and sterilization materials throughout.

Why it matters

The Prophet's Mosque receives large numbers of worshippers and visitors year-round, and maintaining continuous cleanliness across such a vast area is a major operational challenge. Combining smart technology with skilled workers helps keep courtyards and prayer spaces clean and sterilized without interrupting worship.

The cleaning operation is an official mosque service. Visitors are not required to pay any fee, book, apply, or obtain a permit, and no digital application is needed to benefit from it.
