An agreement was signed on 14 August 2026 to deliver electrical power supplies to the Expo 2030 site in Riyadh, covering the development of dedicated electrical infrastructure for the event. The deal ensures power is secured well ahead of the opening so facilities can be tested and trial-operated.
Under the agreement, the infrastructure will include one main power supply station, three primary substations, and associated transmission and distribution networks connecting the site to the national grid. The systems are designed to provide high-reliability, high-efficiency electricity that meets Expo 2030's technical and operational specifications.
Construction and connection of the substations and related network works have been assigned to Saudi contractors, including Alfanar, Haif, Al-Tadamuniah, and Al-Babtain. Earlier in 2026, bids were invited for the construction of three 132/13.8 kV substations and interconnection works in Riyadh as part of the Expo 2030 power program.
The power capacity and infrastructure are planned to support hosting 197 countries and an expected 42 million visits to Expo 2030 Riyadh. The broader utilities and infrastructure backbone for the site — including electrical and communication systems — is being delivered under a main utilities and civil works package that will provide about 50 km of infrastructure networks.
Why it matters
For residents and visitors preparing for Expo 2030, reliable power infrastructure is a key part of readying the venue on schedule. Securing supplies early allows the extensive testing needed before the event welcomes millions of guests, reinforcing Riyadh's preparations to host one of the world's largest global gatherings.
