Filmmakers' Program Opens Cinema Training for Saudis

The Filmmakers' Program, an initiative of the Saudi Film Commission under the Ministry of Culture, is expanding training opportunities for young Saudis pursuing careers in cinema. The program is part of human capability development under رؤية السعودية 2030 and aims to build local creative talent across the film industry.

Current editions of the program aim to train around 4,000 participants at multiple levels through in-person workshops, online courses, artistic residencies, and master classes. Training reaches 13 regions, including الرياض, Makkah, Asir, Najran, Tabuk, and the Eastern Province, with recent editions expanding the number of workshops to around 150.

The program is open to beginners, amateurs, and experienced practitioners, with tracks covering general filmmaking, scriptwriting, production, business, editing, audio, and other specializations. Advanced professional tracks generally require at least two years of experience in film or media, while beginner tracks welcome motivated applicants with little or no formal background.

How to apply

Registration is done online through the Ministry of Culture's digital engagement platform (engage.moc.gov.sa) on the dedicated program page. Typical steps include creating a user account, completing the application form, uploading a CV or portfolio for professional tracks, selecting preferred tracks, and submitting within the announced registration windows.

Training is delivered in cooperation with international film and media institutions, including bodies linked to Pinewood Studios and other global providers. Workshops are offered free of tuition to selected participants. Durations vary by track: short workshops run one to three days, online courses span several weeks, and residencies or intensive programs can last around two to eight weeks. Each cohort is limited to its announced period, and participants re-apply for later editions.

For young Saudis interested in cinema, the program offers a structured, low-cost route into a growing local industry while keeping opportunities accessible across the Kingdom.
