Final Exit Visa in Saudi Arabia: Process & Checklist

A final exit visa is the last administrative step before you leave Saudi Arabia for good. It cancels your iqama and your sponsorship, and it authorizes you to depart the Kingdom permanently. Because it ends your legal residency, it is important to get the timing right, settle your obligations, and understand exactly who issues it and how long it stays valid. This Saudi Living guide walks you through the process, the online steps, and the key points to check before you request it.

What a final exit visa actually does

Unlike an exit/re-entry visa, a final exit visa is one-way. Once it is used and you leave, your iqama and sponsorship are cancelled and you cannot return under the same status. For that reason, make sure everything you need to do inside the Kingdom is genuinely finished before you travel.

Who issues it and how

For most private-sector employees, the employer is the starting point. The employer terminates the contract and begins the final exit workflow on قوى, then issues the actual visa through مقيم or Absher Business.

On the employer side, the مقيم steps are broadly:

  • Log in and open e-transactions
  • Choose the electronic final exit visa service
  • Select "issue final exit visa"
  • Enter the resident's data and the security code
  • Confirm, then print the visa

The self-service route on Absher

In some cases you can request the visa yourself through أبشر (Individuals), provided all of these are true: your contract is terminated, no vehicle is registered in your name, all dependents already have their own exit visas, and your iqama has enough validity left.

The self-service steps are:

  • Log in and go to My Services
  • Open Passports, then Visa Requests
  • Choose "Final Exit Visa"
  • Accept the terms and submit

After you submit, your employer has 10 days to approve or reject. If they take no action, the request is auto-accepted. Once approved, you have 5 days to issue the visa. Note that some self-service flows issued after employer approval carry a shorter 15-day validity from approval, so you must leave the Kingdom within that window. The government service itself is free of official fees, whether issued through Absher, Absher Business, or مقيم.

Validity rules and the iqama threshold

Your iqama validity directly affects whether you can get the visa and how long it lasts:

  • Your iqama must have at least 30 days remaining to issue a final exit visa.
  • If your iqama has 30–60 days left, the visa's validity equals the remaining iqama period.
  • If your iqama has 60 days or more, the visa is granted for 60 days.

General guidance treats a final exit visa as valid for 60 days (roughly two months) from issuance, and you must depart within that period. Because different flows can specify shorter windows, always confirm the exact expiry printed on your visa.

What happens if you overstay the visa

If you do not leave within the validity period, the expired visa triggers a SAR 1,000 fine. The employer can only cancel the expired visa after that fine is paid, and only while the iqama is still valid. This is why you should book travel comfortably inside the visa window rather than at the last minute.

Checklist: settle these before you request

To avoid delays or blocked requests, clear these first:

  • Final salary and end-of-service benefits with your employer
  • Any personal loans and financing
  • Outstanding traffic fines
  • Iqama and levy balances
  • Social insurance contributions
  • Vehicle registered in your name (must be transferred or cancelled)
  • Dependents: add them to the same final exit visa if they are leaving with you

Confirm each item on the relevant official Saudi portal — أبشر, مقيم, or قوى — before you submit, and keep proof of any settlements. When everything is cleared and the visa is issued, plan your departure well within the printed validity to leave the Kingdom smoothly.
