SHARAKAT has received five bids for the Riyadh East Independent Sewage Treatment Plant, with submissions arriving on 28 September 2026. The project, valued at approximately US$150 million, will now move to detailed technical and commercial evaluation before a preferred bidder is chosen.
The plant is designed to treat 200,000 cubic metres of wastewater expanding to 500,000 cubic metres It will be delivered under a build-own-operate-transfer model with a 25-year concession, meaning the winning developer will finance, construct and run the facility before transferring it back at the end of the term.
Five consortia are competing for the contract: Etihad Water and Electricity with Metito and Thrustboring Construction Company; GS Inima Environment with Alkhorayef Water and Power Technologies; Lamar Holding with China Harbour Engineering Company; Miahona with Marafiq and Bin Omairah Holding; and Suez with Civil Works Company and Al Awael Modern Contracting Company.
The request for proposals was issued in October 2025, and 53 companies had been prequalified in 2024. The bid deadline was extended from 30 June 2026 to 11 August 2026 before the offers were ultimately submitted. No bidder has yet been officially awarded the project.
For residents of eastern Riyadh, the facility is part of the capital's expanding water and sanitation infrastructure, supporting a growing population and helping recycle treated water for reuse. SHARAKAT will confirm the selected developer once its evaluations are complete.
