A new summer program is giving young people in Saudi Arabia the chance to move from playing games to making them. The Next Gen Games Camp, launched under the theme “From Player to Game Maker,” is being run in person at King Salman Science Oasis in Riyadh through a partnership between Savvy Games Group and the science oasis.
The camp is a structured summer education program built around an intensive 20-hour curriculum, delivered across morning and evening sessions. It targets Saudi-based youth aged 10 to 17, split into two tracks: a junior track for ages 10–13 and a senior track for ages 14–17. Both male and female students are eligible and attend in mixed schedule blocks.
Importantly, no prior experience in game design or coding is required to take part. To join, participants must be within the target age range, be able to work in a team and participate actively, commit to attending all program days, and have parent or guardian approval.
What students will learn
The program teaches the fundamentals of game design and development through practical, project-based learning. Students work in teams to turn their own original ideas into playable game prototypes, while building skills in creative thinking, communication, teamwork, and problem-solving. The camp ends with a closing competition where teams compete for the “Best Game in Camp” title.
For families, one of the most notable details is the cost: the camp is free of charge for participating students, with expenses covered through partnership funding. There are no participant tuition fees or ticket prices for the camp itself. The initiative gives local youth an accessible entry point into a fast-growing creative and tech sector, reflecting wider efforts to build homegrown skills and talent across the Kingdom.
