School Fitness Screenings Done for 1448 New Students

Health authorities have completed school fitness screenings for newly enrolled students across the Kingdom for the 1448 AH academic year, covering about 332,931 male and female students. The program is delivered by the Ministry of Health in cooperation with the Ministry of Education as part of preventive health services for school students.

The screenings target children newly enrolling in the first grade of primary school in all regions and governorates. Fitness screening is an essential step tied to school registration for new students, and its results are used to help determine the appropriate educational track — general education or special education — where needed.

What the screening covers

Each assessment includes verifying and completing basic school-age vaccinations and reviewing the student's medical history. Health teams also measure body mass index (BMI), check vision, hearing, and speech, examine oral and dental health, and carry out a full clinical assessment. The process is designed for early detection of health issues before or at the time of school entry.

Parents book appointments electronically through the Sehhaty app: after creating an account, they open the Appointments section, choose Book an Appointment, select their preferred Primary Healthcare Center and then the Family Medicine Clinic, and pick a suitable date and time before confirming. Examinations are carried out at Primary Healthcare Centers across the Kingdom.

The program for first-grade entry runs from the start of the second semester of the current academic year until the beginning of the following year. Families are informed of any identified health conditions and guided to appropriate follow-up and care, supporting early detection and prevention for the youngest students entering school.
