Makkah Adds Public Squares and Walkways

Makkah is working to strengthen its urban identity through the development of new public squares and pedestrian walkways, in a move designed to improve quality of life for residents across the city.

The initiative focuses on creating open community spaces and safer, more accessible pathways that encourage walking and everyday use of public areas. Such projects aim to make the city more welcoming for families and residents while reinforcing Makkah's distinctive character.

Why It Matters

Public squares and well-designed walkways give communities places to gather, relax, and move around comfortably. For residents, this can mean shorter, safer walks and more usable open spaces close to home.

Investment in pedestrian-friendly infrastructure also reflects a wider focus across Saudi cities on livability, encouraging people to spend more time outdoors and connect with their surroundings. As these enhancements take shape, residents in Makkah are expected to benefit from a more comfortable and connected urban environment.
