Rain Draws Jeddah Residents to Parks and Corniche

Scattered moderate to heavy rainfall swept across Jeddah and surrounding centers on Tuesday, 20 September 2026, drawing residents outdoors to parks and open spaces to enjoy the cooler weather. Families headed to seafront promenades and public gardens as temperatures dropped across the city.

The National Center for Meteorology issued alerts of moderate to heavy thunderstorms with the potential for heavy rain and flash floods over parts of the Makkah region, including Jeddah, around the same period. Civil Defense in Jeddah urged residents to steer clear of low-lying areas, valleys, and spots where rainwater tends to accumulate, and to follow official safety instructions during the rainfall.

For families looking to make the most of the weather, Jeddah offers many free public spaces. The waterfront parks along the north and central corniche remain free-entry, with spending usually limited to parking fees in paid zones (often 0–5 SAR per hour) and optional street food or drinks (about 5–20 SAR per item).

Popular large public parks include Al-Salam Park near the Al-Salam district and Al-Rawdah Park in the Al-Rawdah district, both free to enter, with nearby kiosks and cafés selling snacks and coffee for roughly 5–25 SAR. Landscaped green areas near King Abdulaziz University in south Jeddah are also open to all at no cost.

The Jeddah Waterfront (New Corniche) in North Obhur and Ash-Shati offers free access to promenades and parks, with bike and scooter rentals around 20–40 SAR and small children's attractions between 5–20 SAR. Outdoor lifestyle destinations typically charge nothing for entry, with restaurants and cafés pricing main dishes at 25–60 SAR.

Importantly, no special applications, permits, or fees are required to visit public parks, corniche areas, or open spaces during rainfall — access is generally free beyond standard municipal arrangements. Residents are simply reminded to prioritize safety and avoid flood-prone areas while enjoying the rare cooler days.
