Red Weather Alerts for Four Saudi Regions

Red weather alerts warning of heavy rain, flash floods, hail and thunderstorms were issued on Tuesday, 22 September 2026, for parts of four Saudi regions: Makkah, Al-Baha, Asir and Jazan. The alerts caution residents in mountainous and low-lying areas to stay prepared as unstable weather moves across the southwest.

In the Makkah region, affected locations include parts of Taif, Maysan, Adham, Al-Ardiyat, Al-Qunfudhah, Al-Lith and Al-Jumum. In Al-Baha, the warnings cover Al-Baha city, Baljurashi, Al-Mandaq, Qilwah and Al-Aqiq. In Asir, alerts extend to Abha, Khamis Mushait, Ahad Rafidah, Al-Namas, Tanomah and Mahayil, while in Jazan they include Al-Aridah, Sabya, Abu Arish, Al-Darb, Fayfa, Samtah and surrounding governorates.

Forecast hazards include flash floods, hail, strong winds, reduced visibility and thunderstorms. The validity of each alert varies by locality and is published through the National Center for Meteorology's Weather Early Warning System.

Civil Defense has advised residents and visitors to avoid valleys, flood channels and water crossings, to remain indoors during severe weather, and to follow official emergency instructions. Drivers are urged to take extra care on wet roads where visibility may drop sharply.

The alerts matter for the many residents and expats living in and traveling through the southern regions, especially during peak rain periods when valleys can flood quickly. Staying updated on local warnings and keeping away from flood-prone areas remain the safest steps until conditions improve.
