Riyadh Air Names Atlético Madrid Stadium

Riyadh Air announced on 9 October 2024 a nine-year stadium naming partnership with Spanish football club Atlético de Madrid. Under the agreement, the club's home ground has been renamed Riyadh Air Metropolitano.

The deal runs through 2033 and ties the Saudi carrier's name to one of Europe's leading football venues. The renamed stadium remains located in Madrid, Spain, and is not situated in Saudi Arabia.

No official fee for the agreement was disclosed. While figures of between €250 million and €300 million have circulated in reports, these are not official numbers and have not been stated in Saudi Riyal.

Why it matters

The partnership marks another step in the growing presence of Saudi brands on the global sports stage. For residents and football fans across the Kingdom, the naming deal places a Saudi name at the heart of top-flight European football for nearly a decade.

Stadium naming agreements are a long-established practice in international sport, offering brands sustained visibility during matches, broadcasts and major events. For Riyadh Air, a carrier building its identity ahead of wider operations, the association with a high-profile club adds international recognition to its emerging brand.
