Construction projects across Riyadh have been fined more than SR20 million in 2026 for dust pollution, as environmental enforcement in the capital continues to tighten. The penalties were issued by the National Center for Environmental Compliance following inspection and monitoring tours of project sites.
The figure was updated over the course of the year. Earlier 2026 reporting placed the total at more than SR16 million before it rose to more than SR20 million as inspections expanded.
The dust-control rules apply to construction projects in Riyadh, with reported coverage including sites that have a total area of 2,000 square meters or more. Non-compliance can trigger penalties of up to SR50,000 and inspectors are enforcing the dust-control procedural guide during their site visits.
Why it matters
Dust from active construction sites affects air quality and can pose health concerns for residents living or working nearby, particularly in fast-growing districts where multiple projects run at once. Tighter monitoring pushes contractors to adopt proper dust-suppression measures, keeping streets cleaner and reducing airborne particles.
For companies operating in the capital, the message is clear: compliance with dust-control requirements is being checked on the ground, and repeated violations can quickly add up. The relevant official enforcement channel is the environmental compliance authority, which handles the inspections and issues the fines.
