King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh resumed limited operations on 18 October 2026, following a temporary closure that lasted more than one week. The reopening marks a cautious first step toward restoring air traffic at the capital's main gateway.
Authorities had extended the closure to carry out safety inspections and confirm the airport's operational readiness before allowing flights to return. Even with the restart, operations have not yet returned to normal, and several airlines have continued to cancel or suspend some of their flights.
Under the current arrangements, arriving and departing aircraft require prior permission from the General Authority of Civil Aviation, in line with NOTAM A3650/26. A separate notice, NOTAM A3651/26, states that the airport cannot be used as a planned diversion airport during this period.
What passengers should do
Travellers are strongly advised to confirm their flight status directly with their airline before heading to the airport. Because schedules remain subject to change, checking ahead can help passengers avoid long waits or unnecessary trips.
The gradual return of operations is important for residents and visitors in Riyadh who rely on the airport for domestic and international travel. As inspections conclude and capacity increases, schedules are expected to stabilise, but for now flexibility and early confirmation remain essential.
