6,000 Runners Join Green Spirit Run in Historic Jeddah

Around 6,000 Saudi citizens and expatriates took to the heritage streets of Historic Jeddah (Al-Balad) on Friday, September 18, 2026, for the Green Spirit Run, a community race held to mark Saudi National Day.

Participants chose between 5 km and 2 km distances, with the event open to professional runners, amateurs, families, and children. The route wound through the historic district's landmarks and traditional streets, giving runners a chance to experience the city's heritage while celebrating the national occasion.

The run was organised by Masafat Club in cooperation with the Ministry of Sports, the Saudi Sports for All Federation, and Jeddah Historic District. The mix of distances and the family-friendly format helped draw a wide range of participants across ages and fitness levels.

Why it matters

Community runs like this have become a familiar way to mark national occasions across the Kingdom, combining physical activity with a shared sense of celebration. Holding the race in Al-Balad, one of Jeddah's most recognisable heritage areas, connected the National Day spirit with the city's cultural identity.

For residents and expats alike, the event offered an accessible, inclusive way to take part in the festivities, whether running competitively or walking the shorter route with family. The strong turnout reflects growing interest in outdoor and community sports as part of everyday life in Saudi cities.
