Saudi Arabia is moving ahead with preparations to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup, confirming a detailed plan built around 15 stadiums spread across five cities: الرياض, جدة, Al Khobar, Abha, and NEOM. A dedicated official organizing structure and portal has been set up to manage tournament planning.
The hosting plan combines four renovated venues with eleven new stadiums. Most of the new builds are scheduled for completion between 2026 and 2032, with key venues such as Aramco Stadium in Al Khobar targeted to be structurally complete as early as 2026–2027.
Riyadh at the heart of the plan
The centerpiece is King Salman International Stadium in the القدية area of الرياض, designed for roughly 92,000 spectators and earmarked to host both the opening match and the final. Construction is moving from design into the contractor prequalification phase, with completion targeted before 2030.
الرياض will anchor the tournament with eight stadiums in total, including the new Prince Mohammed bin Salman Stadium (about 45,000 seats) in القدية, the renovated King Fahd International Stadium (around 68,000), and the upgraded Prince Faisal bin Fahd Stadium, scheduled for renovation by about 2027.
جدة is set to feature four venues, among them the renovated King Abdullah Sports City Stadium (60,000+) and a new stadium within the New Jeddah Central Development, due around 2027. The Eastern Province, Abha, and NEOM will each host one venue.
For residents and expats across the Kingdom, the plans point to major new sports and entertainment destinations, upgraded infrastructure, and expanded event options in the years leading up to 2034. The stadium requirements follow FIFA standards, with group-stage venues holding at least 40,000 fans and the final venue at least 80,000.
