Saudi Arabia began its campaign in the 27th Arabian Gulf Cup with a narrow 1-0 victory over Kuwait in the tournament's opening match, held on 23 September 2026 at Al-Inma Stadium, formerly King Abdullah Sports City Stadium, in Jeddah.
The only goal of the match came through an own goal by Kuwait defender Yousuf Al-Haqan, who diverted the ball into his own net following a shot by Saudi forward Hammam Al-Hammami. The result was enough to hand the hosts a winning start on home soil.
With the three points, Saudi Arabia moved to the top of Group A as the competition gets underway. The narrow scoreline reflected a closely contested opener, with the home side edging ahead thanks to sustained attacking pressure.
