Saudi Arabia Confirmed as 2034 FIFA World Cup Host

Saudi Arabia has been officially confirmed as the sole host of the 2034 FIFA World Cup, following an uncontested bidding process. The confirmation was announced on 11 December 2024, giving the Kingdom the right to stage football's biggest tournament in the 48-team format.

The tournament is planned across five host cities: الرياض (Riyadh), جدة (Jeddah), Al Khobar, نيوم (NEOM) and Abha. In total, 15 stadiums are planned, with 11 new venues to be built and the remainder renovated to international standards.

الرياض is set to be the centrepiece, hosting eight stadiums. Among them is the new King Salman International Stadium, designed to seat more than 92,000 spectators and expected to host both the opening match and the final, before becoming the permanent home ground of the Saudi national team. The existing King Fahd Sports City Stadium in the capital is planned for refurbishment, with a post-renovation capacity of more than 70,000.

To meet FIFA's requirements for fans, teams, delegations and media, Saudi Arabia plans to provide more than 230,000 accommodation rooms across the five cities. As host nation, the Saudi team qualifies automatically, taking one of the Asian Football Confederation slots.

What it means for residents

For residents and visitors, the World Cup promises new stadiums, expanded hospitality and a major boost across Riyadh, Jeddah and the other host cities in the coming years. As of now, exact ticket prices, fee structures and booking channels have not yet been officially published, and detailed match dates remain unconfirmed. Planning anticipates scheduling in the cooler months and avoiding overlap with Ramadan. Ticket policies will follow FIFA's standard global framework, with no mandatory discounts or sales restrictions within the host cities. Official information is being shared through the dedicated Saudi 2034 World Cup channel rather than national e-government platforms.
