Saudi Camel Federation Launches SR500,000 Cup

The Saudi Camel Racing Federation has announced a new Saudis-only competition, the Crown Prince Camel Festival Cup, offering SAR 500,000 to the owner who accumulates the most points across the season. The cup is reserved exclusively for Saudi camel owners and will debut at the eighth Crown Prince Camel Festival held at the Taif Camel Racing Track.

The competition will be contested for the first time during the 2026-27 season. It rewards consistency throughout the calendar rather than a single winning run, giving owners an incentive to compete across a range of events.

How the points work

In public races and Saudi-bred races, points are awarded to the top five finishers: 25 points for first place, 20 for second, 15 for third, 10 for fourth and 5 for fifth. In all other races, only the winner earns points, receiving 10 points, with no points for the remaining finishers.

The cup forms part of a wider festival that has grown significantly in scale. The 2026 Crown Prince Camel Festival schedule includes 248 races with total prizes exceeding SAR 50 million, underlining the sport's continued expansion in the Kingdom.

For residents and enthusiasts across Saudi Arabia, camel racing remains a living link to heritage while drawing growing investment and audiences. The new cup adds a season-long storyline to follow, spotlighting Saudi owners and adding to the appeal of one of the country's most prominent traditional sporting events.
