Saudi Arabia's commercial courts reported faster case-resolution times and improved judicial quality after adopting digital procedures and specialized training, The reforms aim to speed up dispute resolution and strengthen the Kingdom's business environment.
Commercial courts now rely on the ناجز digital workflow for first-instance procedures. This covers electronic case filing, the exchange of briefs, digital pleading, virtual hearings, and the digital delivery of judgments. Officials say the digital work cycle saves time and expedites procedures for litigants.
Procedures were also restructured to make hearings more efficient. The number of hearings is now capped at a maximum of three, and parties can file their cases electronically. Authorities reported that commercial courts resolved around 11,000 cases as of April 2026, and that more than 6,000 commercial rulings had been published on the ministry's online platform.
What it means for businesses
The Law of Commercial Courts sets out several practical rules for those pursuing claims. In cases covered by the regulations, a plaintiff must send a written demand asking the defendant to satisfy the claim at least 15 days before filing. Courts may also impose a fine of up to 10,000 ريال سعودي on any party that disrupts proceedings or the order of a hearing.
Certain commercial-case documents may be made available for public access for a fee equal to the cost of the service. Faster resolution times and greater transparency are expected to give companies and investors more predictability when settling commercial disputes in the Kingdom.
