Recent discussions within Saudi Arabia's energy sector have placed a renewed focus on expanding women's participation, removing barriers to entry, and broadening the roles women play across technical, engineering, research, digital, and renewable-energy fields, as well as leadership positions.
the sector has reached a national target of 30% female representation. The milestone reflects ongoing efforts to open wider pathways for women to contribute to one of the Kingdom's most strategically important industries.
Building support networks
Much of this progress is supported by the Women and Energy Association, which was established in Riyadh in 2023. The association runs leadership, professional-development, knowledge, and networking programs designed to help women grow within the sector.
Its initiatives include the Women's Leadership in Energy Diplomacy program, along with efforts that connect female students, researchers, specialists, and mid-career professionals. These programs aim to build a continuous pipeline of talent from education through to senior roles.
The Ministry of Energy's incubator tracks also play a part, focusing on strengthening technical training and increasing women's involvement across the industry.
For residents and professionals across Riyadh, Jeddah, and beyond, these developments signal growing opportunities in a field long seen as male-dominated. The expansion of training, mentorship, and leadership pathways offers women more routes into technical and specialized careers that support the Kingdom's broader economic goals.
