Saudi Gold: 21K Slips to 456 SAR, Now 462-474

Gold prices in Saudi Arabia have seen notable movement in recent months, with 21-karat gold dipping to around 456 Saudi Riyals

Historical readings for 21-karat gold showed a level of about 456.75 SAR marking a short period when prices had fallen and then moved sideways at that level before rising again. That dip is no longer current.

As of mid-August 2026, 21-karat gold is trading higher. Typical retail per-gram quotes nationwide range between about 462 and 474 SAR, varying by provider and time of day. In Jeddah, 21-karat per-gram quotes have been recorded around 459 SAR.

Why prices keep shifting

Gold prices in the Kingdom are market-based and change continuously throughout the trading day. There is no fixed official government retail price for 21-karat gold, and price movements in 2026 mainly reflect changes in global gold prices and the US dollar-linked environment rather than any new domestic pricing rules.

It is also worth noting that indicative rates published by gold-tracking platforms are per-gram retail or wholesale quotes that usually exclude making charges, VAT, and any jeweler's markup. These additional costs are applied at the shop level, so the final price a buyer pays is typically higher than the quoted gram rate.

For residents and expats planning to buy or sell, the takeaway is simple: check live rates on the day of purchase, compare between shops, and factor in making charges and taxes before deciding. No new government fee, tax, or price cap specifically on 21-karat retail gold has been introduced in the local market this year.
