Saudi Schools Launch Digital Student ID Cards

The Ministry of Education has introduced a digital student identification card for all male and female students in Saudi Arabia, as part of a wider drive to digitalize education services. The new electronic ID replaces paper-based records and is available through the Ministry's Unified Education Portal and linked digital platforms.

Each digital ID is an official electronic identity that shows the student's name, nationality, identity number, school, and grade or level. It also carries a QR code that allows authorized entities and competent authorities to electronically verify the student's identity data and confirm its validity.

the initiative aims to eliminate paper-based follow-up in favour of digital tracking of student information and services. It is also designed to make it easier to identify students inside schools and at external entities, and to streamline access to educational information, homework, exams, and assignments for students, parents, and teachers through integrated digital platforms.

What it means for families

Parents and teachers can use the digital ID and connected portals to monitor learning, homework, tests, and other school tasks, and to communicate with schools without needing in-person visits. Students returning to public schools from August 23, 2026 are covered by the rollout, with digital IDs provided for the first time for all students as part of new academic year services.

The move is part of a broader digital transformation in education. Separately, general education certificates are now issued electronically and authenticated via a QR code, allowing them to be verified online without stamps or signatures. No fees have been announced for issuing or using the digital student ID, and no fixed validity period has been stated; the card is tied to the student's current school and grade information.
