A Saudi startup has secured global recognition after Flow Guard Solutions, a company that emerged from KAUST, won first place worldwide in the 2026 Hult Prize and took home the US$1 million grand prize. The final stage was held at Ashridge House in the United Kingdom.
The team had earlier claimed victory in the Hult Prize Saudi Arabia National Competition, which qualified it to advance to the global rounds. On the world stage, it stood out as the sole Arab representative among the final top eight teams.
Flow Guard Solutions focuses on smart water management, developing technology for leak detection and water-use monitoring aimed at reducing water loss. Its approach targets one of the region's most pressing resource challenges, offering practical tools to help conserve water and cut waste.
Why it matters
Water conservation is a priority across the Kingdom, where efficient use of resources supports long-term sustainability goals. A homegrown solution reaching the top of a global competition highlights the growing strength of the local startup and innovation ecosystem.
The win also spotlights the role of young Saudi entrepreneurs in tackling real-world problems with technology, and demonstrates how ideas developed in the Kingdom can compete and lead on an international scale.
