Umm Al-Qura Launches Live Museums Program in Makkah

Umm Al-Qura University in Makkah has launched the first Live Museums Enrichment Program, an eight-day event held at the university's cultural interface on its main Makkah campus. The program opened in August 2026 to coincide with International Youth Day and aims to connect young people with the city's rich heritage.

The initiative is designed to engage youth with Makkah's tangible and intangible heritage, support heritage tourism, and contribute to the cultural and Quality of Life objectives under Saudi Vision 2030 by raising awareness of Islamic, Arab, and national heritage and encouraging its preservation.

Activities are organized into several tracks that combine training workshops, live heritage shows, and content drawn from the humanities and visual arts related to Makkah's history. The tracks are built to move participants from theoretical knowledge toward direct, hands-on interaction with heritage material. Content covers historical and enrichment sites across Makkah, the city's material and immaterial heritage, and practical skills in visual arts and heritage presentation.

The program primarily targets Saudi and resident youth in Makkah and surrounding regions, while participation is also open to others interested in the city's cultural and historical heritage. Sessions run across mornings and evenings over the eight consecutive days, with the core training and live museums experience delivered on campus, though activities reference Makkah's historical sites throughout.

For residents and expats in Makkah, the program offers a rare chance for young people to explore the city's history in an interactive setting. Those wishing to take part can follow the university's official website and news center for schedules and registration details.
