The General Directorate of Civil Defense issued a potential danger warning for Jazan Province on 16 August 2026, urging residents to stay indoors and follow official safety instructions as severe weather moved across the region. The alert was pushed through the National Early Warning Platform directly to mobile phones in the affected area.
The warning came in coordination with the National Center for Meteorology (NCM), which forecast heavy rain, flash floods, strong winds, hail, and thunderstorms across several Jazan governorates, including Ad Dair, Al Aridah, Al Aydabi, Al Harth, Ar Rayth, Fayfa, Harub, Jazan, and Farasan. NCM alerts specified that conditions would run from 12:00 to 20:00 on 16 August 2026, with active winds, reduced visibility, hail, torrential rain, and lightning strikes.
An earlier raised alert on 9 August 2026 had already covered Jazan and Farasan governorates from 14:00 to 22:00, including rising waves and torrential rains.
Safety guidance for residents
Civil Defense advised residents to remain indoors during the alert period and avoid unnecessary movement until the danger passes. People were urged to stay away from valleys, flood channels, low-lying areas where water collects, and seafronts. The directorate also asked residents not to gather at incident sites or film and share videos of events, and to rely only on official alerts while avoiding rumors and unverified social-media content.
Residents can follow real-time updates through the National Early Warning Platform mobile alerts and the Civil Defense official account on X. In similar warnings for Jazan and Yanbu in July 2026, Civil Defense later announced that the danger had passed and the situation had returned to normal once conditions stabilized, while reminding the public to keep monitoring official channels for any new alerts.
With the rainy season bringing sudden and severe weather to the southern Kingdom, staying informed through verified channels remains the safest way for families and workers in Jazan to protect themselves.
