Foreign-owned companies planning to open a corporate bank account in Saudi Arabia in 2026 must complete a clear set of registration steps before a bank will activate the account. The process centres on three essentials: an active foreign investment license from وزارة الاستثمار, an issued Commercial Registration (CR) from the Ministry of Commerce, and tax registration with ZATCA including a Tax Identification Number (TIN).

Banks also require the company to hold a registered National Address issued through Saudi Post (SPL / WASEL) and a physical office lease. Virtual offices are not accepted for corporate account opening. In addition, the General Manager acting as authorized signatory must be a legal resident with a valid Iqama and a verified digital identity through نفاذ before the account can go live. Banks commonly refuse to proceed if the GM's Iqama has not yet been issued.

The core document pack includes the MISA license, the CR certificate, Articles of Association in Arabic and notarized, a Chamber of Commerce certificate, the National Address certificate, the office lease contract, the ZATCA tax certificate, and the company seal if one is used. For foreign shareholders, banks typically ask for passport copies, proof of residential address, source-of-funds evidence, ultimate beneficial owner (UBO) details, and a board resolution authorizing the account and its signatories.

Remote onboarding and timelines

Under SAMA rules, remote onboarding is permitted only for the general director named in the memorandum of association, with verification drawn from MISA license and commercial register data — including capital, ownership percentages, and board members. Once complete documentation is submitted, corporate account opening is generally processed within two to four weeks.

The government platforms are used in sequence: وزارة الاستثمار for the license, the Ministry of Commerce / ناجز for the CR and notarized Articles, Saudi Post's National Address platform for the address certificate, the ZATCA e-portal for the TIN, and نفاذ for the resident signatory's identity verification. For the growing number of foreign investors setting up in الرياض and جدة, understanding this order can prevent costly delays.
