Heavy Rain, Flash Flood Alerts for Western Saudi Arabia

The National Center for Meteorology has issued a series of weather warnings, including red alerts, for heavy rain and thunderstorms across parts of the western and southwestern regions of the Kingdom. The alerts cover parts of Jazan, Asir, Al-Baha, and Makkah, where forecasters expect thunderstorms, flash floods, hail, and active, gusty winds.

The current warnings also extend to Najran and parts of Madinah, where light to moderate thunderstorms are expected to trigger flash floods along with gusty winds that may stir up dust and reduce visibility. The alert window in the warning system is listed as 14/09/2026, with active winds noted alongside the heavy rainfall.

the anticipated effects include torrential rain, hail, surface winds carrying dust, and a heightened risk of flash floods in valleys and ravines. Residents in the affected areas are advised to stay alert to changing conditions during the alert period.

Why it matters

Flash floods and sudden downpours can develop quickly in low-lying areas, valleys, and dry riverbeds, posing risks to drivers and residents alike. Communities across the western and southwestern regions should follow official guidance, avoid crossing flooded valleys, and exercise caution when strong winds and reduced visibility are present.
