How Foreign Firms Open a Corporate Bank Account in KSA

Foreign companies planning to operate in Saudi Arabia can open a corporate bank account, but only after completing a clear set of licensing and registration requirements first. The process is designed to confirm the entity is legally established in the Kingdom before any account is activated.

Before approaching a bank, a foreign-owned entity must hold a valid Ministry of Investment (MISA) foreign investment license, an active Commercial Registration (CR) from the Ministry of Commerce, and a registered national address for the Saudi entity. Tax-registered businesses also need a Tax Identification Number (TIN) from ZATCA. Many banks additionally require the General Manager or authorized signatory to hold a valid Iqama, a Saudi mobile number, Absher access, and to complete Nafath digital identity verification.

Documents banks collect

For branches or entities wholly owned by foreign investors, banks request at minimum a copy of the MISA license, the Saudi Commercial Registration or professional license, and the ID of the manager in charge. A passport is accepted at opening provided an Iqama is supplied within 90 days. Banks also require a certified copy of the articles or memorandum of association and the home-country registration, with Saudi embassy certification or Apostille, plus IDs of all authorized signatories and a board or head-office mandate specifying who may operate the account.

Under Saudi KYC and anti-money-laundering rules, banks must map the full ownership and control structure and identify ultimate beneficial owners holding at least 25%. Applicants complete KYC and AML/CFT forms and sign a declaration to share information with Saudi supervisory authorities on request.

For the growing number of expat entrepreneurs and international firms entering the Saudi market, understanding these steps early can save weeks of delay. Preparing a complete KYC dossier in advance — licenses, CR, national address, tax registration, a UBO chart, and signatory IDs — is the most reliable way to move smoothly from registration to an active account.
